Grade 12 student Mikayla Annis from Leo Hayes High School in Fredericton has won a place in EF's 2018 Canadian Youth Ambassador Program which provides mentorship and travel opportunities for Canadian youth across the country.

Mikayla will be among a group of 30 youth who will be travelling to Ecuador in March to learn about the Amazon's biodiversity, its indigenous communities and the impact of globalization. They will reconvene in Ottawa in May to meet with Members of Parliament and Senators where they will present their action plans about what they have learned.

EF's Canadian Youth Ambassador Program is an initiative of EF Education First, an international education company with offices in Toronto that specializes in language training, educational travel, academic degree programs and cultural exchange. The program empowers youth to identify local issues they are passionate about, to propose an idea that would have a positive impact on the issue, and ultimately create social change. Selected Ambassadors receive a travel scholarship to an international destination where they participate in hands-on learning experiences while building global competencies.
