Empower Hour Information
This year Park Street School has begun some initiatives that will focus on the six Global Competencies, which include Critical Thinking and Problem Solving, Innovation, Creativity and Entrepreneurship, Learning to Learn, Collaboration, Communication and Global Citizenship and Sustainability.  (Further information about each of these Competencies can be found on your child’s Fresh Grade page).

Empower hour is a one hour school-wide opportunity for students to learn about and explore the Global Competencies.  It is made up of three main components: Make Explore Create, Classroom Family Meetings and Passion Projects.
Make Explore Create (M.E.C. Bins)

Staff created fun and engaging M.E.C. bins to be explored as a class. Some examples of the bins created include: art projects, building structures, creating puppet shows, and designing marble runs.

Class Family Meetings
This is a time to meet as a class and develop the learning community.  Activities focus on students better understanding themselves as well as helping the teacher understand student interests, strengths and passions.  It is also a chance for the class to meet and discuss any issues that may have arisen in class or on the playground.

Passion Projects
Beginning in February we will put aside the M.E.C. bins to have students work on passion projects.  These will be specific areas that students are passionate about and will be showcased on Leadership Day.
