Hello Families of Saint Mary’s
Academy, John Caldwell School, Andover Elementary School, Perth-Andover Middle
School, Southern Victoria High School, Donald Fraser Memorial School and
Tobique Valley High School.
As of midnight tonight, February
8, Health Zone 4 will move out of Lockdown and into the Red Alert level.
This means schools in Health
Zone 3 and 4 who are currently engaged in remote learning will return to
in-person learning on Wednesday, February 10.
It should be noted that while
classes are in session, there will not be a continuation of remote learning as
it was over the past two weeks. Those high school settings that follow a
blended learning model will restart according to the schedule communicated with
families by the school. Those who are on a personalized learning plan will
continue as per their plan.
To allow for a smoother
transition back into the classroom, students will not attend school, in person,
tomorrow, Tuesday, February 9. Instead, teachers will make
one final connection with students for remote learning in the morning and
provide some classroom instructions for the following day. Teachers will use part
of tomorrow to prepare for the week ahead and the physical return of students.
Based
on the provincial government’s Covid-19 Recovery Plan, schools in Health Zone 4
(Saint Mary’s Academy and John Caldwell School) will follow the Red Level
Directives, which state that schools will remain open with enhanced health and
safety measures including:
- Students
and staff stay home if they have even one symptom of COVID-19.
- School
staff are actively screened when they report to work each day. Parents
screen their children each morning prior to sending them to school.
- If
a positive case of COVID-19 is confirmed, the school will close for a
minimum of three consecutive days to allow for contact tracing and the
school will become a testing site for staff.
Neighbouring schools who were
impacted by the lockdown (Andover Elementary School, Perth-Andover Middle
School, Southern Victoria High School, Donald Fraser Memorial School and
Tobique Valley High School) will be at the Orange alert level as they are located
in Health Zone 3.
The
Department of Education and Early Childhood Development has provided documents which
outline both the Orange and Red Level directives. At this time, it may be
helpful to review them. The documents can be found here:

as possible.
