RE: March Break Digital Learning Workshops & Resources for Students and Parents

Hello ASD-W Families,

If you are looking for something fun and educational for the whole family over the March Break, Anglophone West School District is offering workshops (guided-learning, live and instructor-led) and courses and resources (self-directed learning) to grow your digital skillset.

Student and Parent Workshops (Guided Learning)

SESSION #1

THE REMOTE CLASSROOM: TEAMS FOR FAMILIES (K-12) FEATURING COCO GAUFF

Rising tennis star, Coco Gauff shares tips and tricks for using Microsoft Teams. This free one-hour training session will show families how to be productive and successful while students are learning through Teams.

SESSION #2

DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY: CREATE COOL PHOTOS AND STOP MOTION ANIMATIONS (GRADES 2-12)

In this free two-hour workshop, students eight years and older will explore digital photography concepts by taking and editing photos, and then creating a stop motion animated video.

DESIGN AND CREATE YOUR OWN VIDEO GAMES WITH MAKECODE ARCADE (GRADES 2-12)

This free camp teaches students eight years and older how to design and build video games using block coding and fundamental gaming and coding concepts in MakeCode Arcade.

Courses and Resources (Self-Directed Learning)

ASD-W is also partnering with Microsoft to offer families a comprehensive and growing number of learning opportunities and resources. A full library of free resources is available on the Microsoft Educator Center. These resources are open to the public and include courses, learning paths, tutorials, and other supports. Resources are available in 3 tiers: Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced and can be filtered by Duration, Subject Area, Age Group, Skill Development, and Tool.

French Immersion Information

Registration for Grade 1 Early French Immersion and Grade 6 Late French Immersion for the 2021-2022 school year will be done electronically through the following hyperlink to the ASD-W web site: 

French Immersion Registration 2021-2022

 The registration form will be available effective January 27, 2021 and will remain open until the end of the school year (June 2021), with scheduled monitoring.  Registrations received by March 8, 2021, will inform planning for formation of classes (as per Provincial Policy 309:  French Second Language Programs).

This year information will be forwarded to ALL Kindergarten and ALL Grade 5 parents/guardians via School Messenger on January 26, 2021 along with a brochure for 2021. The brochure will be included with the School Messenger communication to parents. Print copies will be available to schools upon request. Requests may be directed to Amy Wilcox (amy.wilcox@nbed.nb.ca)

 Additionally we are opening up 10 minute Question & Answer time slots on Feb. 3rd & 4th for any parents/guardians wanting to connect with a French Second Language Subject Coordinator regarding the registration process.  These sessions will be conducted through MS Teams or by phone. Parents/guardians will be directed to the following link French Immersion Registration Question & AnswerBookings​ to book their appointment.
