Week
of April 13th - 17th

Dear
Parents/Guardians:

We
hope everyone enjoyed celebrating Easter over the weekend and are finding
different ways to reach out to friends and family.  We have included different websites and
activities to try with your child this week.
We will be contacting everyone by telephone to see how your learning is
progressing and if you have any questions or concerns.

LITERACY

I’m
hoping that parents and guardians are having their child read for 15 minutes
each day.  If time it would also be great
if yourself or an older sibling could read to them as well.  This is just as important.  Two suggestions for reading this week is to
make predictions about the story before reading and review the book.  When finished see if your child can retell
the main event of the story.

I
am suggesting for writing activities this week that your child keep a daily
journal of their feelings throughout the day.
This is something that can be ongoing and a regular part of their
writing at home.  The other writing
activity I would like for them to try is a letter to a friend or family member
that they are no longer able to see or visit.
When finished they can read the letter to that person over the phone or
mail it to them.

The
list of sight words for both grade one and two is being sent as well this
week.  Your child should be able to
identify and spell them.  One fun
activity to do is to write the words with sidewalk chalk in your driveway.  Say a word and have your child stomp on the
word or toss a beanbag or other object instead.

Math

I am sharing some ideas for Math for
you this week. I have included 5 different activities, enough for 30 minutes a
day this week. Please feel free to do other things as well, these are only
suggestions. I am including a few good Math sites as well. If you have any
questions, feel free to email me (jaye.higgins@nbed.nb.ca or phone 356-1801) I will be sending new suggestions each
week, along with a phone call to check in each Thursday or Friday. I am
including your child’s sumdog username and password in case they forgot it. As
well, at any time, please play games and activities that your child has at home
in the blue folder I sent home. (Get Your Game on Folder)
