We have been working on nets of shapes - for example if you were to take a tissue box apart, what would it look like?  When you receive flat boxes from a store and you have to build your own to put gifts in it, what does it look like flat?  We created several 3D shapes.  Now we are learning how to find the surface area of rectangular prisms (like a tissue box).  I'm explaining how knowing how to calculate surface are is important in daily life beyond Grade 8!  When purchasing a gallon of paint, you need to know the surface area of the room that you are painting, to know how many gallons are required!  These skills/outcomes can be practiced on IXL and www.aaamath.com
