We have had a great week here at MAS! It was nice to see and meet all the parents that came to our PSSC and Home and School meeting and nice to see some new faces join. Please remember you don’t have to sit on the committees to help out with events. Volunteers are always welcome and you are welcome to attend these meetings at any time of the year.
Everyone got to meet their learning buddy for the year. We have matched all our students up with a buddy and they will engage in many learning activities together throughout the year. We are excited to watch the learning and see the relationships grow.
Home and School- Coming up in October we will be doing a few fund raising events- Santa’s little Helper, a Movie night, and a Chapters Night. Please keep an eye out for more details
Professional Learning Day- This coming Tuesday, September 26th is the first of our half day professional learning days for teachers. Please note dismissal that day will be at 11:00am.
Hot Lunch- Order forms have gone home and are due back on Thursday September, 28th. First day of hot lunch orders will be on October 3, 2017. We are offering hot lunch Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from three different providers. Tuesdays will be the “Great Canadian Bagel” where students can order- bagel and cream cheese, bagel sandwich, salad, soup, and fruit cups. On Thursdays we will be ordering from Pizza Twice again, where students can order- cheese pizza and salad. Fridays we will be ordering from ‘Tots n’ Taters’ where students will be able to order- wraps, a Nibbler Bowl (chicken breast slices, cheese, grapes, cucumbers, carrot sticks, pita wedges & dip) and fresh fruit cups. If a hot lunch day lands on a storm day it will be a credit for next month’s order. *Please note Payment- Payment for each provider is different. Great Canadian Bagel- cash or cheque made out to Great Canadian Bagel, Pizza- cash or cheque to McAdam Ave School, and ‘Tots n’ Taters’ is exact cash ONLY. No late orders can be accepted.
Orange Shirt Day- Orange shirt day is an opportunity to wear orange shirts as a symbol of the wrongs done by the residential school system to Aboriginal children and communities. As part of our 10 year education plan we made a commitment to inform students of the history of residential schools. We will join hundreds of others across Canada and wear an orange shirt on Friday, September 29th to honour the children that attended Indian Residential Schools.
Student Fees $40- If you have not paid your student fees yet please do so as soon as possible. If you may need extra time in paying, please contact the office to make arrangements.

Monday September 25th- Apple Orchard field trip permission forms go home.
Tuesday September 26th- Dismissal at 11:00am. Professional Learning for teachers.
Wednesday September 27th- Cross Country meet at Henry Park. Start time of race is 1:15pm.
Thursday September 28th – Terry Fox Walk 1pm. We will be walking around the field with our learning buddies. Hot lunch orders are due.
Friday September 29th - Orange shirt day. Permission form due back for apple picking field trip. Gr. 3-5 presentation from Etsey Art Initiative Program.
