Week at a Glance May 21-25

Hello MAS Families. This week we started our Creative Kid Clusters. The students all seemed to really enjoy their learning time. Students are involved in: Art, Science, Green Screen, Sign Language, Playground Beautification, Navy League, and cooking. 

Reminder there is NO school on Monday, May 21st as it is a holiday. 
 
Jump Rope For Heart-  Forms are due back on Friday, May 25th. 
 
MAS Color Splash Dash- Extended sign up date to May 25th!!! Don't forget to sign up for this FUN event! Invite your family and friends.  Can sign up on schoolcashonline or at the school. This is one of our biggest fundraising events of the year, so please help us make it a success! 
 
Drama/Spring Concert- Due to unforeseen circumstances, we have to move our performance date to from Monday, May 28th to Tuesday 29th at 10am. Parents are invited to join us here at MAS at 10:00am (doors will open at 9:45am) to see our drama group performance, along with hearing all our classes take the stage to share a song they have been learning in music. We look forward to seeing you! 
 
Grades 3-5 Track and Field Day- On Friday, May 25th all our grade 3-5 students will be traveling by bus to Nasis Middle school to participate in track and field events. We will use this day to also help determine what students will go to our district meet in June. Please be sure your child is dressed for the weather- hat, sunscreen, water bottle, snacks, etc. Rain date is Monday, May 28th. 
 
Movie Night- We will be hosting our last movie night of the school year on Friday, May 25th. We will be showing Big Hero 6 as voted for by students. Forms will be going home on Tuesday, May 22 and due back on Thursday, May 24th. We hope to see you there.

Week at a Glance May 14-18

Hello MAS Families. We have had another great week at MAS. The students really seemed to enjoy the Jillian Jiggs performance. It was fun to see a well known book come to life. We also had many students come back for our bike rodeo. It was great to see them learn about bike safety from our City Police. 

Reminder there is NO school on Monday, May 14th. Teachers will be in NBTA meetings all day. 
 
EXCITING NEWS- Please see attached letter! This letter will also be sent home on Tuesday, May 15 with all grade Kindergarten, Grade 1 and Grade 2 students. 
 
Creative Clusters-  Forms for top 3 choices have gone home. I realize we put due back on Monday, but with no school they will be due back on Tuesday. For those that do not return their form, a selection will be made for them. 
 
Jump Rope For Heart- On Monday students brought home Jump Rope for Heart Fundraising forms. On Tuesday they enjoyed a presentation from the Heart and Stroke foundation around the importance of heart health. They also were told that the TOP 3 fundraisers will get to put pie in the teacher's face of their choice. They seemed quite excited about this!!!  Forms are due back on Friday, May 25th.

Week at a Glance May 7-11

Hello MAS Families. Well this week has been interesting with the rising waters. I hope many of you have been able to stay dry during the flooding waters. If any of our families need any help, please let us know. I will update on Sunday if we will continue to open doors at 7:30am. This will depend on the amount of road closures still in place and traffic. 

Reminder there is NO school tomorrow Friday, May 4th. Teachers are off to Saint John for our NBTA council day which is a day of professional learning with other elementary teachers from around the province. 
 
Homework Survey Data- We had 30 respondents. 25 found the teachers pages helpful, with 5 wanting more clarification at times. 27 of our respondents do homework, with 16 having an established routine, and with 11 using the flexibility. 24 of our family respondents like the flexibility of the homework, while 6 would prefer homework given nightly. Along with the question data there were 18 written responses that offered very positive and valuable feedback that we will use moving forward. Thank you to all the families that took the time to provide us with the feedback. 
 
Jump Rope For Heart- On Monday students will be receiving Jump Rope for Heart information packages. Tuesday morning will be our Kick off with the Heart and Stroke presentation. This is an optional fundraising event, however all monies raised goes towards a good cause. 
 
Bike Rodeo- Wednesday, May 9th students are invited back to school at 1:30pm with their bicycles. We will have a bike rodeo course set up and the City Police will be here to go over bike safety and to check bikes over. It will be lots of fun and last about 30-45mins!

Creative Clusters- We will begin Creative Clusters on Wednesday May 16th 10:30-11:45am. We will be sending home student options and ask you to go over the choices with your child. Please then have them select their top three choices.

Week at a Glance April 30-May 4

Hello MAS Families. We have had a busy week here at MAS. We celebrated Mrs Yerxa on Wednesday for Professional Administrative Assistants Day. She is so much appreciated for all the she does for both staff and students.  Thursday was National Poem in Your Pocket Day. All students met in the gymnasium to share poems they had written with friends and staff. Our grade kindergarten and grade 3s got to visit York Care and participate in parachute, bean bag toss, and bowling. They had lots of fun with many laughs and smiles! Today we had our Leo Hayes Clubs come with lots of fun activities taking place. 

Homework- Our homework survey is now closed and I thank all those families that took the time to provide us with feedback. Next week I will send out an email to share with our community the results. 
 
No School Friday, May 4th- Reminder there is no school for students this Friday, May 4th. This day is dedicated to NBTA Council Day meeting. 
 
Bike Rodeo- Wednesday, May 9th students are invited back to school at 1:30pm with their bicycles. We will have a bike rodeo course set up and the City Police will be here to go over bike safety and to check bikes over. It will be lots of fun and last about 30-45mins! 
 
Cashless Schools- On Monday we sent home information for online payments for school fees. This is up and running already. Some families have registered fro our MAS Color Splash Dash online and our grade 5s have been able to pay for swimming. 
 
MAS Color Splash Dash- Reminder MAS will be hosting a fun color run fundraising event in June. This is a 1km or 2 km walk/run. We will have a start line and participants will run a course route. Participants are asked to wear white t-shirts as throughout the run they will be splashed with colorful powder. Registration forms have gone home. Please invite friends and family and come on out to this FUN fundraising event. 
 
Creative Clusters- Throughout the month of May and June we will be doing creative clusters and offering students enrichment opportunities based on individual interests. We want to offer students as many interest group choices as possible. If you have an idea or talent that you could volunteer an hour and half for 6 Wednesdays (May 16 to June 20th) and would like to share your knowledge with our students, please let me know. We would love help from our MAS community.
