Week at a Glance, Feb 18-22

Hello MAS Families! Love and kindness was in the air this week at MAS! We are seeing many encounters of children helping each other and being kind to one another. It is wonderful to see! 

Reminders:

Family Day- This coming Monday is Family Day and there is no school. 

Breakfast Program- Tuesday - This Tuesday will be eggs, toast, and fruit.  When the students arrive at school, if they wish to come have breakfast, please remind them to come in our grade 3-5 door. We will take off our boots, put our coats and book bags in classroom then head down to the gymnasium to enjoy breakfast together. When the bell rings and once students are finished they will head up to class to start their day with full bellies.

Family Movie Night-  Movie night form was sent home on Thursday and is due back by Wednesday, February 20th. On Friday, February 22 we will be hosting a family movie night- Christopher Robin. We hope to see you there! 

Skating- On March 1st we will be going skating. The location has changed- we will now be at York Arena. K-2s skate 9-10am and 3-5s skate 10-11am.

Mad Science- There are still spots available for interested students to sign up for afterschool Mad Science Program starting next Tuesday, Feb 19th.  Please go online to register or call asap (see attachment for details).

Hot Lunch- March order forms will be coming home on Tuesday.  

Seusstastic Week-We are looking forward to a fun filled week prior to March break-  'Seusstastic' week on February 25- March 1. 

Monday- Mixed Up Monday- "Why fit in, when you were born to stand out". Crazy hair and outfit day. 

Tuesday- Top Hat Tuesday- Cat in the Hat day- Wear a crazy/favorite hat. Outdoor Activities Day and 100th Day of School. 

Wednesday- We Care Wednesday- "A person's a person no matter how small". Anit-Bullying Day- wear pink.

Thursday- Lorax Day- Wear Orange and a Mustache. 

Friday- Sleep Book day- Wear your favorite PJs and skating day.

Week at a Glance Feb 11-15

Hello MAS Families! We have had an exciting week of learning at MAS. On Tuesday we were joined by David Wang who shared the meaning of the Chinese New Year with our students. We then all shared in a Chinese lunch together in the gymnasium. The smiles, the conversations, eating with friends, and new learning made for a wonderful celebration at our school. 

On Thursday Coach Mac and four UNB players came to visit. Coach Mac shared and encouraged students to always try their best, and to work hard. Students have been invited to watch the UNB game this coming Saturday. It is Northside schools night. Staff and family will be there and we look forward to seeing many of you! 

Reminders:

Staff Appreciation Week- This coming week I would like to recognize our Staff. This week is staff appreciation week, but we appreciate all they do each and every day. Our staff play a critical role in shaping your child. They are kind, patient, dedicated, hard-working, fun, and love what they do. Being a small staff our team steps up in many ways to be sure your child's learning experience at MAS is memorable and fun. If you see a staff member this week, feel free to let them know what you appreciate about them. 

Northside School Hockey Night- Our Northside school night with UNB hockey is Saturday, Feb. 9th. A notice was sent home with information in regards to purchasing tickets at the box office. Hope you can make it!

Skating- We will be doing a whole school skating trip to Willie O'Ree on March 1st. Permission slips were due on February 8th. If you have not done so please return the forms as soon as possible. This will help us be sure all students have skates and helmets as needed. 

Valentine's Day- Each class will be treated to fruit and vegetable trays for snack time. 

Family Movie Night- On Friday, February 22 we will be hosting a family movie night. Information will be coming home this week. We hope you will be there!

Week at a Glance- Feb 4-8

Hello MAS Families! Time to say goodbye to January and hello to February. It has been a cold week, but here is hoping next week is warmer. Please remind student to dress for the cold weather as we will go outside when we can. We had a visit this week and were entertained by the UNB Sting Quartet through the Conservatory. They were great! Also, Congratulations to our students that participated in NBA 2 Ball at UNB on Wednesday. Lots of fun was had by all.

Reminders:

Chinese New Year Celebrations: We will be connecting with the local Chinese community to help present a celebration of the Chinese New Year on February 5th.

Safe Arrival New System- Just a reminder of the protocol for our safe arrival system now- If your child will be absent from school the number to call is 1-833-294-4838. There is also an app that can be downloaded onto a mobile device. If you do not use the new system to call in and report student absence, you will receive a phone call from the automated system.

District Education Council – The District Education Council met on Thursday, January 31st and motioned for option #3 to vote to close McAdam Avenue School. More details on this decision were sent home on Friday and more information will be sent as it becomes available.

Breakfast Program Volunteers-  We are putting out the call for volunteers for the month of February. If you can join us one Tuesday morning or more, please let Helga know. We ask volunteers to arrive at school at 7:40am and we are done around 8:30am with clean up. If you have any questions or would like to sign up to help out, please contact Helga (helgarennke@gmail.com).

Hello MAS Families! It has been an interesting mix of winter weather this week.  On cancelled school days if you are looking for ideas and activities for your child to do,  please keep in mind to check your child's teacher's page on the school website. Great way to fill in some of the time during the day and keep learning going at home.

Reminders:

No School Monday- Reminder there is no school this Monday, January 28th. This is a Professional learning day for teachers. 

Family Literacy Day- Family Literacy Day® is a national awareness initiative created by ABC Life Literacy Canada in 1999 and held annually on January 27 to raise awareness of the importance of reading and engaging in other literacy-related activities as a family. January 27, 2019 is the 20th Anniversary of Family Literacy Day! Please see attachment for fun ideas to do with your family for literacy day.

Hello MAS Families! It has been a cold, but great week at MAS. This week we started our Breakfast program and it was wonderful to have 45 students attend. We are really looking forward to this for the remainder of the school year.  We also had a visit today from Mike Richard who made a generous donation of $6000 to our school library and memorial award. It will be exciting time for students in helping purchase books to replenish our current school library.

Ringette Field Trip Grades 3-5- Fredericton is hosting the 2019 Atlantic Ringette Championships from January 25th to 27th at the Willie O’Ree Arena.  As part of this event they have invited our grade 3-5 students to attend the tournament on Friday, January 25.  Students will attend opening ceremonies leaving the school at 11:30am and returning at 1:30pm. We will have lunch before we leave and a snack upon return.
