​Dear Parent and Guardians, 

This is a very exciting week for our school because it is Safe Schools Week. All week long students will participate in emergency practices such as fire drills, lockdown, site evacuation, and bus evacuation. These plans are very important and I encourage you to discuss them with your children this week. 

Reminders: 
School photo forms are due back on Thursday, October 18. Our picture retake day will be on November 2. 
Santa's Little Helper Fundraiser- Reminder to please send in order forms and money by October 22.

Career Week- October 31 to November 4th is Atlantic Canada Career Week. We are looking for parents (relatives or friends) that would be willing to come in and share what you do. Please contact the office if you would like to volunteer some time and enrich the learning of our students here at MAS

What we are learning this week:

Literacy: Students will be working on using illustrations as prompts for writing. As a class, we will also begin to look at book reviews and having students give their opinions about texts they read. 

Math: We are beginning a new unit in math class this week, whole numbers. We will be looking at representing and describing numbers. As well and comparing and ordering numbers. 

Science: We are looking at how technology affects habitats both positive and negative ways. 
Health: We will continue to look at elements of a healthy lifestyle. We will also begin to look at body image and self-esteem. 

French: The students are learning vocabulary to describe themselves and the members of their family. Given the time of year, we will also be discussing Halloween. 

This week: Safe Schools Week 
Monday, Oct. 15- Fire Drill. Halloween Howl Letter to come home. 
Tuesday, Oct. 16- Lockdown. Hot lunch Tots n Taters. Choir at 9:45am. Estey Afterschool Art program. ‘November’ Hot Lunch Order Forms go home.
 Wednesday, Oct. 17- Site Evacuation 
Thursday, Oct. 18- Bus Evacuation. Picture order forms are due. Hot Lunch Great Canadian Bagel. PSSC and Home and School Meeting. Second DEC meeting notice to come home. 
Friday, Oct. 19- LHHS Clubs begin.
