Posts: Weekly What’s Up: June 11-15, 2018

It’s hard to believe there are only two weeks left of school
and they are going to be busy weeks.

Please send only water in your child’s water bottle for
their desk.

Please continue to check your child’s Communication Bag for
notices and read the newsletters closely.
We are still maintaining our regular class schedule as much as possible
and learning will continue till the end of the year.  We also want to put forth our best effort on
year end assessments.  Please support
your child by making sure they are coming to school well rested and ready for
the day.

Tomorrow is our trip to Greenhill Lake.  Please make sure your child has everything
they will need to spend the day outside, including lots to drink and a full
lunch.

Literacy:   Please remember to record the title of the book that your
child reads each night.  When reading
with your child, stop at various points throughout the book and ask them
questions about the story or new vocabulary words.   Please continue to use the list of comprehension
questions that was sent home.

The students are enjoying
writing their own narratives.  We have
some imaginative authors in grade 2!

We are continuing our learning
about animal life cycles and about respecting nature.

Math:  This week’s numbers of the day will be 165-169.  We continue to work on selecting appropriate
strategies for addition and subtraction, with students working with equations
at their level. Some students are working with 2 digit equations, some are
working with a combination of one and two digits and some students are working
with one digit equations. Regular practice of the basic math facts (10 partners,
doubles, 1more/less) is beneficial as students are realizing that using mental
math is faster than having to calculate the answer.  Please continue to practice counting coins at
home.  Practicing word problems is also
beneficial.

Mrs. Burnett had _____
freezies.  She gave ______ to the grade 2
class.  How many freezies does she have
left?

We are
continuing to work on describing and identifying real world examples of 3D
objects (cylinder, sphere, prism, cone, cube, pyramid).  We are also learning about increasing
patterns.
