I can’t believe this is my last Weekly What’s Up for the
year!  We had a great time last week at
Greenhill Lake and are looking forward to more fun and special memories this
week.  Thank you for supporting your
child’s learning this year.  I am so proud
of the social, emotional and academic growth I have witnessed this year.  I hope everyone has a wonderful summer!!!

Please continue to check your child’s Communication Bag for
notices and read the newsletters closely.
We are still maintaining our regular class schedule as much as possible
and learning will continue till the end of the year.  Please support your child by making sure they
are coming to school well rested and ready for the day.  Regular attendance is expected all week,
unless your child is ill.

Literacy:   Reading and writing regularly over the summer will help
your child to maintain the skills they learned over the course of grade 2.  Authentic writing ideas include: writing a
letter/note to a family member or friend, creating grocery lists, keeping a
journal or their summer adventures, drawing a picture of a special event and
adding a caption, creating comic strips… just to name a few.  I will be including a reading challenge page
in your child’s report card.  If they
complete it over the summer and bring it back to me in the fall, I might just
have a treat for them!

Math:  Practicing math over the summer is also very
important.  You can use materials found
in nature to make repeating and increasing patterns, create addition and
subtraction word problems using real life examples, build shapes and 3D objects
in the sand, measure things outside using nonstandard units, use sticks and
rocks as Base Ten blocks to model two digit numbers, etc.  The summer is a great time to show your child
that math is all around them and not just something to be learned in the
classroom.

Dates to Remember

Tuesday, June 19: K-2
Water Day  Please send your child with a
towel and a change of clothes as we will be getting wet!  Students should put sun block on before coming

classroom campfire to celebrate and wrap up our year in grade 2.  We will have a special lunch while at ‘camp’.  If you are able to send in an item, please
click on the link to sign up:  http://signup.com/go/kkruSfO   If you do not have internet access and would
like to send something in, please let me know and I will tell you what we need.
