Posts: Weekly What’s Up: October 22-26, 2018

The
speculation has started as to when we will be able to colour in the first snowy
day on our weather graph.

We are
looking for take-out menus and grocery flyers that we can incorporate into our
kitchen center once we have it built.  If
you have either around the house that you would be willing to send in the class
would appreciate it.

Literacy:   Please remember to record the title of the book
that your child reads each night. Your child should be bringing home a book to
read each night.

Our
No Excuses spelling words for the week are: are, for, on, she and was.  These are words that we are reviewing from
the grade 1 list.  We practice them
throughout the week in variety of ways.
Students are expected to spell these words correctly in their writing.

We
have been reading Halloween parodies of some classic books and songs.  The students have enjoyed noticing
similarities and differences between the originals and the parodies.

Math:
 This week our
numbers will be 34-38.  You can ask your
child to show you a representation that we came up with in class or you can
have them create their own representation.

We are continuing to work on repeating patterns,
identifying even and odd numbers and are revisiting 10 partners (numbers that
add to make 10).  Making 10 is a valuable
mental math strategy and one that we practice often.  This week we are reviewing 2D shapes and will
begin creating bar graphs.
