Weekly
What’s Up: November 5-9, 2018

That was
quite a wild weekend!  I hope everyone’s
power is close to being restored.

Our kitchen
construction is going well.  Next we will
be able to paint and decorate our new appliances.  We have practiced problem solving, trial and
error and have put our growth mindsets to good use.

The class
has been practicing Peace Like a River
for the Remembrance Day assembly.  We
will be singing with Mrs. Penney and Mrs. Tingley’s classes.

We are
looking for take-out menus and grocery flyers that we can incorporate into our
kitchen center once we have it built.  If
you have either around the house that you would be willing to send in the class
would appreciate it.

Happy Birthday
to Jackie on Friday!

Literacy:   Please remember to record the title of the book
that your child reads each night. Your child should be bringing home a book to
read each night.

As
I am doing assessments for report cards this week, it is a short week and we’re
completing work for the Remembrance Day assembly, we will not have new No
Excuses words this week.  In class we are
practicing with the words we’ve learned so far.

This
week we are reading and writing about peace and Remembrance Day.  The students have shared some amazing
thoughts about what peace is and why it’s important.

Math:
 This week our
numbers will be 44-47.  You can ask your
child to show you a representation that we came up with in class or you can
have them create their own representation.

We are continuing to work on 2D shapes, identifying even
and odd numbers and 10 partners (numbers that add to make 10).  We are looking for 10 partners every chance
we get.  We are also practicing place
value to 50 and adding and subtracting with zero.

Board and card games offer so many learning
opportunities in addition to being a great family time activity.  If you child is familiar with Go Fish you can
play 10 partner Go Fish.  Instead of
asking for a card to make a pair, players ask for a card that will go with one
of their cards to make 10.
