Posts: Week of November 26 - 30, 2018

It's hard to believe that we will be into the last week of November. Busy days are ahead with all of the activities that we do in December.

The cold weather came on with a bang this past week. Please make sure your child has some extra mittens (gloves are little difficult for the little ones to get on) and some extra socks for when they inevitably get wet. I have some extras here as well in case they all get wet.

This week's new Word Wall words for grade 1 are of, said, to, will, by. The kindergarten students have been introduced to the words, at, it, I, he. We continue to work on letter/sound combinations and the beginning sounds of words. Some websites that are great for our letters are https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KCMvsQho4ZE

In writing we have talked about answering the questions what and where. Coming up, we will talk about answering the question why in our writing.

In math, we are talking about numbers to 50 now in grade 1. So that means counting forwards and backwards to and from 50 (that's a big jump from 20). See if your child can do this at home, or even recognize these numbers in their environment, to help them practice. Kindergarten students are counting and identifying 6-10 now including recognizing the number, the word and how to make a group/set.

We have been working with an app called Todo math on our Ipads this week to consolidate learning.

Thank you to those that were able to make it to parent/teacher interviews this week. It was wonderful speaking with all of you. Please feel free to get in touch with me if you have any concerns or questions.

Have a great week!
