Thank you to
all of the families who made time to meet with me during parent teacher
interviews.  I enjoyed our conversations
and appreciate you for showing your child that you value their education.  If you have not yet signed and returned the
comment sheet and envelope, please do so as soon as possible.

I sent the
December book order home today as I want to make sure there is time for any
order to arrive before Christmas break.
If you would like to order something as a gift please let me know.  You can order on line or drop off the order
at the office if you want it to be a surprise.

We had many
wet socks and mitts today.  Please
consider sending extras in your child’s bag or send in a change of clothes that
can be left in the classroom.

Literacy:   Please remember to record the title of the book
that your child reads each night. Your child should be bringing home a book to
read each night.

Our
No Excuses words for this week are: can,
little, our, two
and very.

The
Christmas books have arrived on the book shelf! We have also started reading a
Magic Treehouse book, A Ghost at Christmas Time, as our class novel.

Over
the next several weeks we will be learning about Christmas celebrations around
the world.  We will also learn about
other holidays that take place this time of year.  If you have any questions/concerns about
this, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Math:
 This week our
numbers will be 55-59.  You can ask your
child to show you a representation that we came up with in class or you can
have them create their own representation.
You can also practice skip counting to that number.

We are continuing to work on doubles and doubles plus
one facts and on representing numbers to 50 in several different ways.  We are also learning about equality and
inequality and how to represent equal and not equal groups.  There are lots of opportunities to practice
counting, sorting and grouping in regards to the holidays.  You can also looks for repeating patterns
with your child on wrapping paper and in Christmas decorations.  Anytime that you can show your child math in
the real world is a valuable learning experience.
