Good afternoon K families,

It's been a while since I have updated my teacher page so here goes.

Literacy:

In literacy for the past few weeks, we have been working hard learning the remaining letters and sounds in our Jolly Phonics program.  We have touched on Ll, Ff, Bb, Jj, Ww and Zz.  Can you believe we only have four more to go?  Below you will find the Jolly Jingles and Bounce Patrol Kids Video links to these letters and sounds.

We have also been working very hard segmenting the sounds we hear in words to help us with our writing and wow, am I ever impressed with the students' progress in this area!  It's unbelievable for this time of year.    We have also learned a few new sight words - you, that, can.

Numeracy:

In numeracy, we have been working very hard on the following concepts.

Numbers that come after any number between 1 and 10.  (Ex. 4, 5   or 8, 9)
Representing numbers between 6-10.  (creating sets, matching sets to numerals)
Subitizing numbers and sets to 10

Jack Hartmann Subitize to 10 Country Style

Counting forward and backward from any number between 1 and 10   (ex. 3,4,5,6 etc... or  7,6,5,4 etc.)
Numbers in two parts  (ex. 5 is made up of 3 and 2 or 4 and 1 or 0 and 5)

 Number Pairs to 5 Song

You and Your World

In You and Your World, we have continued with social skills and have been working hard on The Group Plan.  I will be sending home a parent information letter next week on this topic which will hopefully help you out at home too.  When we use the same language, our efforts may have more of a consistent impact.  We have also begun discussing Christmas and will move into our unit of study called "Needs and Wants" next week.
