Campobello Island Consolidated School Students Presented with Duke of Edinburgh Silver Award Certificate

The New Brunswick Duke of Edinburgh’s Award held its annual Silver Award ceremony November 8 in Fredericton at the NB Legislature. Her Honour, Jocelyne Roy Vienneau, presented 30 achievers with their Silver Award certificate. Six of these achievers (Addie Carten, Micaela Matthews, Ethan Carten, Adam Butler, Jordan Weaver, Keanu Matthews) all are part of the Campobello Island Consolidated School Duke of Edinburgh group. This group started their Award journey back in 2012, each earned their Bronze Award last year and are the first Silver achievers from Campobello Island. The requirements of the Silver Award are: the performance of at least thirty hours of community service; participation in a challenging three day expedition; the learning and practice of a skill for at least six months; and involvement in physical recreation activities for at least twenty weeks. For each of these young people, the experience is personally rewarding and involves many hours of hard work, dedication, and commitment. The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is a non-competitive, barrier-free program designed to encourage young people to develop positive skills and habits, to make a difference in their life, the lives of others, and in their community. The Award was founded by His Royal Highness, Prince Philip Duke of Edinburgh, to encourage personal development and community involvement for young people.
