The Active School Exchange Opportunity

Through its Centre for Chronic Disease Prevention, the Public Health Agency of Canada has launched a national initiative called the Play Exchange, with a component of this initiative focusing on schools called the Active at School Challenge.

The Play Exchange is an online challenge to find innovative ideas to make Canadians healthier and more active. The winner will win up to $1 million to support the implementation of the project. It is funded, in part, by the Government of Canada, and supported by Canadian Tire, Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) and LIFT Philanthropy Partners.

The Active at School challenge is part of the national Play Exchange initiative, but with a focus on schools. This challenge invites schools to submit ideas on how to achieve a minimum of one hour of physical activity each day. The winner will win $3,000 to support the implementation of the idea in their school. All schools submissions will also qualify for the main Play Exchange competition, so they will be eligible for the $1 million prize.

We hope to have a winner in each province and territory for the Active at School challenge, but so far, the number of participants from the four Atlantic provinces is very low. We would appreciate if you could disseminate the information below to your stakeholders and colleagues so more schools can benefit from this unique opportunity. The deadline to submit ideas is June 18.
