Statement from the Superintendent on St. Patrick’s School.

St. Patrick’s School in Saint John has been closed following a building inspection that identified structural issues. The inspection was part of the Province’s ongoing structural review of schools built before 1980.

It has been recommended that we relocate staff and students for the 2014-15 school year while a further investigation is completed. The safety of students and staff is the priority of everyone.

We are examining our facilities on the west side of Saint John to find classroom space for the 170 students and staff. We will be busy during the month of August putting a plan in place for September and working closely with the administration and school community. It is our priority to keep as many students as possible together and close to the St. Patrick’s neighborhood. We will keep in regular communication with the St. Patrick’s families, and want the transition to the new school year to be as smooth as possible for everyone.
