Hello! Today is Monday, October 3rd and this is Ms. McGrath calling with the weekly messages for all Raiders and their families.
I will begin with a reminder that the joint parent committees of the four High Schools in our area are sponsoring an event tomorrow evening at Saint John High School Auditorium at 7:00 pm. Guest speakers will discuss the mental health concerns of raising a teen in today’s society, address some of the resources that are available within our schools and community and hear a mom’s powerful personal story of hope. Doors open at 6:30 and all parents are welcome to attend.
 
I would like to remind all families that our school website, www.rvms.nbed.nb.ca is updated regularly with these announcements and with other documents and information about our school.
 
Today, I am attaching a letter to the e-mail version of this message. This letter outlines what to do in the event that there is a Lockdown or Hold & Secure situation here at RVMS. This letter is also posted on the website should we ever have an emergency event here at the school. We send this home every year and we will be practicing Lockdowns and Hold & Secure drills as well as our regular Fire Drills throughout the school year. Please review this letter as it outlines what parents can and should do in a school emergency.
 
We have a new student database in ASD-S which includes a new attendance module. The program will generate absence messages if your child has missed any time here at school. While we work through the “glitches” in the program you may receive these message in error. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions about your child’ attendance if you do receive a message and it doesn’t seem right to you.
 
There is no school for students this Thursday or Friday (October 6 & 7) and, of course, no school on Thanksgiving Monday (October 10).
 
Picture retakes are next Wednesday, October 12th and our Gr. 7 students will also receive their immunizations on that date.
 
Chef Frank is preparing a special meal for lunch this Wednesday, October 4th. For $4.50 you may have a pre-thanksgiving treat of turkey, with gravy and mashed potatoes. No preordering is necessary as the meal can be purchased directly in the cafeteria on Wednesday.
