Very Special thanks go to Ms. Evelyn McNulty (parent), Ms. Ginny Hooper (EA) and Mrs. Lori Campbell (EA) for their work in coordinating our annual School Holiday Dinner on December 22nd. This devoted group brought the staff, students, parents and community together to host a wonderful holiday turkey dinner with all the trimmings. It truly is a wonderful event for students and staff, and has become a very welcomed part of the traditions of Beaconsfield Middle School. Very special thanks to Sobeys for their generous contributions to the event.
This was followed by our annual sing song, thanks to our dynamic musical leader Mr. Ring, who facilitated the opportunity for both the grades 3-5 students of St Patrick’s School and our student body.

Beaconsfield is very pleased to report that the staff, students and community raised $1,163.21 for Romero House along with bags of food items through the annual Trim the Tree for Romero House challenge. The school would like to thank the West Side PACT (People and Community Together) Committee for donating Christmas surprise packages to students of our school community. The names of students were randomly drawn and the packages were distributed on December 23rd. Special thanks to all involved in this support campaign.

A big thank you goes again out to Value Village for all of their support throughout the school year. Their continued support for our brown bag lunch program as well as the offerings of clothing for daily use and special events, along with the sports gear for students is very well appreciated.

The grade 8 high school registration process will take place in February.  Letters will be mailed to the addresses that are on file with the school.  If parents or caregivers have had any changes to your address, you must update it with the school as soon as possible so that you receive the notice of your child’s assigned school.

Parents are advised that the patterns in school age children can be an indicator of communicative disease occurrence in the community. Disease prevention and control efforts depend on your participation in the reporting process. Communicative disease cases that occur among students and staff at school should be reported so that interventions can be put in place to deter the development of disease in our school communities.  Schools often receive information about potential communicative concerns such as head lice, pink eye, bed bugs, scabies and many others. It is important that these situations be confirmed by a physician and treatment be provided accordingly, if it is deemed necessary by physician. The school will make every effort to share particular concerns or patterns with the community when necessary. The support of the community is well appreciated. With regards to this students are strongly encouraged to not share hair brushes and hats and avoid sharing drinking bottles so that they avoid contact with unwanted communicative diseases.

Students have been advised that the wearing of Pajamas and slippers in the school is not appropriate dress for a school setting. The slippers are a serious hazard in case of an emergency or fire drill and pajamas can only be worn during our designated PJ Day for the Annual Winter Carnival coming up very soon. Also, it is important for staff and students at this time of year to remember that schools are scent free zones and that we are not to bring scented items or wear them while at school. Your attention to this matter is very well appreciated by all. In addition, all staff and students are reminded of the scent free policy for schools as this can be a concern following the holiday season with gifts that may contain scented products. Your attention to this matter is very well appreciated.

All students at Beaconsfield are encouraged to stay for lunch at the school but they must conduct themselves according to the expectations set out by their homeroom teachers, student classroom monitors and the school administration. Those students who fail to comply will not benefit from the volunteered supervision of staff members at lunch. It should be known also that only those students that have an official lunch form signed by their parents/caregiver are allowed to leave the school grounds at lunch. Because the school expects and encourages students to remain at school at lunch, parents allowing students to leave the school at lunch assume full responsibility for their child (children) while in the community.

The school is pleased to report that Mr. Patterson has stepped forward as coach for the boys and girls basketball teams. We are truly grateful for his continued support in enhancing our school environment and the wellness of the students involved. The try outs were held and the season begins this week.

Grade 8 students will soon be receiving information about the high school registration process and registration forms will be distributed to students in early February. Students and parents will be invited to attend “Open House” opportunities at the local high schools so that they can get details about the different schools before registering to the schools of their choice.

Finally, a few winter weather reminders. We are asking that parents help support a safe school environment by reminding your child/children of the following expectations:

  • Throwing snow on the way to and from school, and while students are in the school yard is strictly prohibited. The police will be contacted immediately should students fail to comply with this expectation.
  • Students must dress appropriately for the weather as students remain outdoors in the morning until 8:20 and go out for 20 minutes every day at lunch unless there are extreme weather warnings.
  • Parents should help students select a safe route to and from school so that they can avoid walking on roadways. Please contact the City of Saint John Works Department with any concerns about public safety on the sidewalks.
