Hello! Today is Tuesday, October 3rd and this is Ms. McGrath calling with a few messages for Raiders and their families.
We are now in week 5 of our school year! You may notice an increase in teacher expectations and workload as we continue to work our way through the curriculum and prepare for Report Cards in November. Please support your child by regularly checking their agenda, discussing assignments with them and encouraging them to complete homework assignments.
You can also use the Achievement Scale in the attached Report Card information to discuss with your child how they think they are performing academically
Middle School parents often find it difficult to help their child with Homework but there are many other ways you can support your child; if they don’t have homework, consider another activity you can do with them. Reading with your child or to your child, and practicing multiplication tables several times each week will help support their success in school. Try to think “outside the box”. Find information online about topic your child finds interesting and read those websites or blogs together and talk about what you find.  Play card games that require math skills or board games that require reading skills. Use weekly flyers to calculate the cost of grocery lists. Anything you can do that encourages your child to read, discuss and use numbers will help them at school even if it is not the exact topic or subject being taught at school.
As for messages this week, I only have a few notes;
1.       Next Monday, October 9th is Thanksgiving and there is no school on that day.
2.       As well, please note that Wednesday, October 25th is another half-day for students with buses transporting student’s home at noon.
3.       Picture orders are due back at the school tomorrow morning. Retakes are scheduled for Monday, October 16th.
4.       Gr. 7 Immunizations are next Wednesday, October 11th for all Gr. 7 students.
5.       Our first dance of the school year is scheduled for Thursday, October 26th from 6-8 pm.
I also wanted to mention that, although we have a fairly open cellphone policy here at the school, students are never, ever allowed to take photos or video with their phones and should only have phones out with teacher permission.
