Hello! Today is Thursday, February 22nd and this is Ms. McGrath calling with a few messages for Raiders and their families.
First of all I want to let you know that we did our Lockdown Drill this morning and it went very well. While we are in lockdown the building is scanned for open doors, visible students, noise etc. All doors were locked and all students were out of view and extremely quiet. Our students did a great job and we really appreciated their cooperation for what I know can be a stressful situation.
I also want to remind families once again that cellphones are not to be on and in use during class hours. Students who need to contact home or need to be contacted by parents must do this through the school office. Failure to comply with this request will result in your child losing all cellphone privileges in the building. Please review our cellphone use policy on page 8 of the agenda. It is also attached to the e-mail version of this message.
We would like to remind families that schools do not provide work if a child is absent due to a family trip or event. Students who miss time will be responsible to catch up on missed work on their return and should plan to attend extra help or workroom when they return to school.
I have also attached a brochure to this e-mail about two upcoming parent information sessions.
The first, title Understanding Teen Depression is scheduled for 6:30 HVHS on Wednesday, March 14th. The speaker is Dr. Daniel Chorley. He is a Dr. at the IWK in Halifax who specializes in child depression and anxiety. Later in the month, on March 21st at Bayside Middle School there will be another session about Drug Awareness & Prevention in teens. Both of these sessions are free for any interested families.
And as we head towards March Break, please make note of the following dates:
Tomorrow, Friday, February 23 is PLAID Friday at RVMS. We wear plaid to show our support for diversity and inclusion at our school.
Next week, we have Theme Days planned for our Winter Carnival Week
Monday, Feb 26th is Pajama Day (wear your cozy PJs and read a great book)
Tuesday, February 27th is Twin Day & Crazy Hair (come dressed the same as a friend or with a new hairdo!)
We also have our annual Much Video Music Dance on Tuesday from 6:00-8:30 pm. Cost is $5. Indoor shoes are required and Chef Frank will be open for snacks and drinks.
Wednesday is Pink Shirt Day (in support of Anti-Bullying)
Thursday, March 1st is Sport Day (wear stuff from your favourite team)
Friday, March 2nd is Senior Citizen Day (in celebration of completing over 100 days of school come dressed as your future self.)
We will also have a pep rally and a few events scheduled for the last hour of the day on Friday.
March Break is March 5-9 with all schools in New Brunswick closed for the week with students set to return to classes on Monday, March 12th.
Thank you for your patience with this long message this week. Have a good evening!
