Gr. 8 Year-end & Quebec Informaton

Hello! Today is Monday, May 28th and this is Ms. McGrath calling with some important information for Gr. 8 Raiders and their families.
First of all, I want to clarify information about some of our year-end activities:
1.       Cabaret – This is an event for our Gr. 8 students and their parents and is scheduled for Wednesday, June 20th. The cost is $5 per person and each Gr. 8 student is allowed three tickets (there is a wait list if you require more than three and one of those three tickets is for the student)

At this event we take pictures (outside weather permitting) and then Chef Frank serves us all a meal. After that we proceed to the gym to view the year-end video prepared by the students. This video showcases each and every Gr. 8 student.

After the video, families leave the building and the Gr. 8 students enjoy their final dance at RVMS.

-The event begins with pictures at 5:30 and dinner at 6:00
-The dance usually begins at 8:00 and runs until about 9:00
-Students may sign-in a quest but only other middle school students are welcome
-Students may choose to dress up but this is not a “prom” and this is not required.
-Copies of the pictures taken that evening will be added to the “Year-end video” and will             be available to purchase from Mr. Vincent’s Tech Team.

2.       Awards Ceremony – All Gr. 8 students will be recognized at the Awards Ceremony on the morning of Thursday, June 21 at 9:30 am (doors to gym open at 9:00).  Families of students receiving special awards will be notified prior to the ceremony. All families are welcome.
3.       Quebec – More information about the Gr. 8 Quebec trip will be coming home soon (including packing lists and medication forms). Some important reminders:
-all school rules, including dress code, apply in Quebec
-students are supervised by teachers in Quebec. Parents cannot override our expectations or decisions while in Quebec.
-all payments must be made prior to departure and we are currently only accepting cash payments
-all assignments must be completed and handed in prior to departure on Wednesday morning, June 13th
-students who do not follow school expectations in Quebec may lose the privilege to participate in closing events at the school upon their return (Cabaret, Awards, other activities)
-all medication will be held by teachers while in Quebec. This includes over the counter medications like Tylenol. Forms will go home prior to departure. (Epi-pens, insulin, and inhalers can be held by the student).

I know this has been a long message. I certainly can take calls if you have any further questions or concerns. I can be reached at trudy.mcgrath@nbed.nb.ca or, on my direct line, at 738-6511.
Thank you and good evening.
