Relay for Life 2016

You may have noticed mention of Relay for Life on our social media pages lately. Here is what this is all about.

Over the past ten years, Harbour View High School has raised more than $150 000 in support of the Canadian Cancer Society. We do this each year by putting on an event, Relay for Life, wherein students pledge to raise money in support of this organisation. Our focus is to fund research aimed at improving the lives of those whose lives have been forever changed by cancer.

This year, Relay for Life takes place on Friday, May 13, 2016. Between now and then, there are many things we, as Vikings, and you, as our community can do.

Participate

There are many Relay for Life fundraising activities that help contribute to our fundraising for the Canadian Cancer Society. Some are school-based (Spring Fling!), some are community centered (visit Goji's on the 25th of April, beautiful people! 20% of their proceeds will go toward Relay for Life).

Students register at a cost of $10, and are asked to raise a minimum of $60.

Donate

Donations in any amounts are accepted until the first week in May. If you want to make a donation, you may do so via any Leadership student, or by contacting the office, who will put in you in touch with someone.

Aside from participating in all Relay for Life fundraising activities or direct donations, you may also purchase Luminary forms in memory of a loved one, or in celebration of a survivor. One luminary is $7, or two luminaries are $10. At 9pm on the evening of Relay for Life, the luminaries are turned on, lining the track that students walk.

Harbour View is the only school in New Brunswick that participates in this event on this scale.

At yesterday's assembly, Hannah DeLucry spoke of her childhood best friend Alexis; Taylor James, who attends Saint John High School, spoke in loving memory of her mother; and Sarah Robichaud, a survivor, shared her own moving story.

We have put a few photographs from our assembly on our social media pages, Facebook (www.facebook.com/HarbourViewHigh) and twitter (www.twitter.com/HVHS_NB). Head on over to check them out.
