IVS Messages for May 20th

Beauty and the Beast – a big thank you to all involved in making this event happen.  Our lead teachers Mrs. O’Brien and Mrs. Roy, community volunteers such as Mrs. Mary Ann Morgan as well as parents such as Mr. Cho on sound and Mary Anne Masson on costumes did an amazing job. There are so many other staff members and parents who did so much and we very much appreciate all involved.  The kids never disappoint us and we are thrilled with the quality of our school performances.

IVS 50% Off Scholastic Book Fair Volunteers Needed – if interested in helping out please contact Mary-Ann Masson either through email (maryannmasson@hotmail.com) or phone 674-2152.  Thank you for considering!

Soapbox Derby is back!!! – IVS is thrilled to be involved in the Soap Box Derby taking place next Saturday, May 28th by Princess Elizabeth School.  We have our driver and pit crew selected and hope family will join us to cheer on the team and enjoy the activities happening in conjunction with this event.  We thank our PALS at Fundy Engineering for sponsoring our involvement this year!  Going to be a blast!

Aid for Fort MacMurray – thank you to all who were able to support this initiative and helping IVS live part of its mission with helping those in need “locally and globally”.
Moving out of Area – we are in the beginning stages of planning for next school year.  If you are moving and/or know your children will not be attending Island View School next fall, please call and inform the office.
IVS Fun Day - Planning has begun for our annual Fun Day at IVS.  As usual, this will be a fun-filled morning of face painting, games, refreshments and more!  The date for this year’s Fun Day is June 22nd and we are seeking volunteers!  In order to have a successful Fun Day we need a minimum of 5 volunteers from each class including a Class Representative, volunteers to help run games, a kitchen helper and a face painter.   We are also seeking the use of a truck for the day and generators to run the bouncy castles.  The time commitment is approximately 4-5 hours.  If you are unable to attend during the day but still want to help out, we will be seeking donations of food for the children.  For more information or to sign up to volunteer, please contact Sharon Gerrits or Julia Halford, Fun Day Co-Chairs at IVSFunDay@hotmail.com.

Hot Lunch – our next round of online orders are scheduled to open on May 6th and close on May 23rd. There are for orders from May 30th and ending on June 10th (a two week period). There will be no hot lunch the last two weeks of school due to a variety of conflicts with field trips, year-end events, etc…

Furthermore, Cashless School will keep any balances in your accounts and carry that forward to next year.  Also, for families who want to increase their balance by adding money to their account over the summer can do so.

Provincial Assessments- May is the time where students write provincial assessments.  At IVS, student in grade 2 will be participating in the provincial reading assessment while students in grade 4 will be participating in field testing of pilot assessment for literacy, numeracy and science.  If you have any questions, please contact your child’s teacher. Student attendance is very important during the scheduled dates and your cooperation with this is greatly appreciated.
