Weekly Messages, April 18th, 2016

Hello! Today is Monday, April 18th and this is Ms. McGrath calling with messages for all Raiders and their families.
First, I would like to begin with a big Raider THANK YOU! to our PSSC and all of the presenters involved in our Career Fair last week. The fair was a great success and teachers have been following up with discussions and reflections in the classrooms. This event was completely organized by our PSSC who are always looking for ways to build community connections for our students. Their continued support is vital to our success here at RVMS.
Now I have several events to tell you about:
1. Friday, April 22 & Monday, April 25 are PD days for teachers so there is no school on those dates.
2. This Wednesday, April 20th, our Gr. 7 classes will be participating in TWOKAM….Talk with our kids about money campaign uses fun activities to engage kids in discussion about money matters that are relevant to their lives. To start this conversation at home, please go to   www.talkwithourkidsaboutmoney.com.
3. Looking ahead to next week we have a very busy Wednesday at RVMS. On this date, April 27th, our Gr. 7 girls will be receiving their final HPV immunizations. Some of our Gr. 8 students will be writing a national exam called the PCAP and we have a dance scheduled that evening from 6-8 pm. The dance is organized by our Gr. 8 students and will serve as a fundraiser for the “Welcome Project” to support new immigrants in our area. Gently used household items will be accepted at the school on that date as well.
4. Looking even further ahead, Gr. 8 students please note that we have had to reschedule our year-end Gr. 8 dance to Wednesday, June 22nd. Our Award ceremony for all students, is scheduled for Thursday, June 23rd at 9:30 am.
5. The annual May PD days are scheduled for May 5th & 6th this year. Please note that there will be no school for students on those dates.
6. I would also like to mention a community event scheduled for next week, Tuesday, April 26th at the centrum the will be an opportunity  for all community members to receive information on the resources and services available to teens and adults with regards to drug and alcohol addiction and abuse. Several agencies will be represented. For more information on this community event, please go to www.2riversunited.com or call 757-2201.
Finally, don’t forget about our new Pizza Dough business. Uncooked, freshly made dough is available for purchase Mon-Thursday before 9:00 am. Cost is $5 for enough dough for two 12 inch pizzas and students can pick the dough up in the Tech Lab on their way home at the end of the day.
I will be repeating some of the above dates in future e-mails and will of course include all of the information in the e-mail version of this message.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me at trudy.mcgrath@nbed.nb.ca or at 738-6511.
Thank you and good evening!
