Music:

Mrs. Rattray has an announcement for all band students and Singing Club members: Great playing and singing this week! Your dedication and efforts are really showing up in your songs. Keep up the good work! 

The Music Room will be closed at lunch, but Mrs. Rattray says feel free to take your instrument home and practice on the weekend.

Grit Group Grade 8 will meet today during Period 3

Grit Group Grade 6 (students in Cyr/Page/Lamey) will meet today during Period 4

QMS is hosting a Babysitting Course for those who are 11 years old and older. This will be a full day 9 to 4 PM on Saturday, November 2. If you are interested, please see Mr. Stu for a registration / permission form. Space is limited and filling up fast.

We are seeking students to represent QMS at two upcoming community events:

On Tuesday, the Anglophone South middle school Gender spectrum alliance conference happens at Meenan's Cove. Mr. Stu is looking for 3 students who are interested in attending.

Also, KV Oasis is hosting a Saturday morning leadership group for boys and non-binary students aged 12-15.

Any students interested in either opportunity, please come to see Mr. Stu asap. There is no fee associated with either of these events.

Intramural final - Thunder will play the Donkeys in the Scooter final period 5. All classes are invited to attend. Teacher’s discretion if it fits with the plan for the day.

In soccer news, the Varsity Boys team defeated RPS yesterday. Congratulations team! Reminder to the Varsity Boys of your practice today at 4:30. Please wait until your coach arrives before going onto the field.

Today, the JV Girls team heads to the Arthur Miller fields to play HMMS. Game time is 4pm. Good luck team!

 On Monday, both JV teams are in action – the JV Girls will host RNS, while the JV Boys travel to Sussex.

Hello Senior Band members. Today you have practice after school until 4:30pm.  

The music room is open in the second half of lunch for any students who would like to practice.

UBU QMS is today at 12:10. Students interested in attending the district-wide Gender Spectrum Alliance Day are encouraged to attend. Mrs. Harris and Mr. Stu will be selecting 3 students to represent QMS at this fun day of learning at Meenan's Cove Beach House.

Scooter Hockey Tournament Intramural action - Semifinals are happening today at lunch!  The Duster will play Thunder and The Donkeys will play Hawks 2.0.     Finals will take place on Friday during 5th period - all classes are invited to come and watch! 

A Badminton Team call back list will be posted outside the gym at break today. A final tryout will take place on Friday, right afterschool until 4:30pm. 

In soccer action, the Girls Varsity team defeated Hampton yesterday.

The JV Girls team lost a close game to Sussex. Despite the score, all girls played a great game!

Today, the Varsity Boys host RPS and the JV Boys will practice immediately following the game

PRIDE Passes – Recognizing two grade 8 students today, one who replaced chairs without being asked and another who showed her Cougar PRIDE!

Shout Out to Mme Cyr and her grade 6 students who have placed some art work based on Fairy Tales in the display case across from the office. We love seeing student work displayed, if any class or group would like to set up a display in the case, just let Mme Spinks know!

WWE Fans! Good news! By popular demand, the group will be meeting EVERY Thursday in Mrs. Page’s classroom during the second half of lunch. Join the group to discuss Raw, Smackdown and PPV events. All are welcome.

There will be a band prep today for all Senior Band members during period 3.  There will be a band prep for Beginner Band flutes, trombones and trumpets this afternoon during period 5.  Please ask for permission before proceeding

Good Luck to the JV Girls as they travel to Sussex.

Cross Country – Congratulations to Eden S. who finished 5th overall, but 4th for Boys, in the middle school race yesterday. Also, congratulations to Kingslee O., who came second, out of all the girls in grades 9 to 12.  Great racing QMS!  

Badminton Team tryouts will begin after school today and continue Friday. They will run each day until 4:30pm.

The Dungeons and Dragons Club will be meeting today during the second half of lunch in Room 106, Mrs. Lord’s classroom. All are welcome.

PRIDE Passes – Thanking a grade 7 boy who stopped to help another student. And praising a grade 8 student who was very welcoming to a new student, helping him get settled. A perfect example of showing Cougar PRIDE!

There will not be any band prep today in period 3, but the Music room will be open at lunch if you would like to practice.

There is Singing Club after school today.  It will end at 4pm.  Thinking about joining? Today seems like a good day.

Cross Country – The last meet of the year is today at Wolastoq Park in Saint John.  Jerseys will be provided. The elementary races start at 4pm so arrive at 3:30pm if you want to do the walk-through of the course.  Info about this meet is in the office.  Good luck to QMS runners!

It’s a long weekend and not only a great time to be thankful, but also a great time to practice your instrument. Band students are encouraged to take their instruments home over the weekend to play your songs.

Congratulations to the JV Boys soccer team for defeating RPS yesterday. Special shout out to keepers Ethan F and Wyatt M for their strong play throughout the game. Great job boys! Reminder of your practice today at 4pm.

Tuesday, the Varsity Boys will host HMMS at 4pm and the Varsity Girls will have a practice immediately following the VB game at 5:15 pm.

Cross Country – The last meet of the year is on Tuesday at the Wolastoq Park in Saint John.  Any runners interested in going to this meet, please pick up an information sheet from the office. Jerseys will be provided. Don’t forget Monday is a holiday go grab your forms today!

PRIDE Passes – Yesterday’s ballots drawn highlighted a student in Grade 6 who helped Mrs. Foley with a new reading program and a grade 8 student who helped Mrs. Miller bring in the breakfast program food. Today’s ballots recognize a grade 8 student who showed great participation in PIF class and a grade 7 student who stopped to help a fellow student.

Intramural Scooter Hockey tournament and Morning Open GymThe repairs on the gym floor are complete and we will resume the Scooter Hockey games today at lunch. Hawks 2.0 vs Mighty Chicks and Dusters vs Thunder. Open Gym will resume tomorrow morning but it will only be for shooting hoops. We cannot use any poles until after the long weekend.

On inclement weather days, students will be coming inside and are to go straight to their locker. You should gather your things for HR and P1 and go to your homeroom where you will stay. Please do not wander the halls. Classrooms should be open at 8 am on these days.

Attention all band students: Both of the band preps have been moved to tomorrow. Beginner Band is in period 2 tomorrow and Senior Band is in period 3. Please get permission from your teachers before proceeding to the Music room. 

Singing Club practice is today after school until 4pm. If you are looking for a club to join, this could be for you!

The Varsity Girls soccer team played to a 1-1 draw yesterday against RPS. Great game by all players! The Varsity Girl’s next game is tomorrow (Wednesday) against HMMS on the Arthur Miller fields at 4pm.

Good luck to the Varsity Boys as they host Sussex today at 4pm and to the JV Boys team who are travelling to Sussex. The JV Girls face off against Belleisle today as well. Good luck to all teams!

Wellness:

It is 10-4 Good Buddy Day. Here is your last tip to think about: Ask good questions. Not nosy ones, but do ask questions that show you are interested in the other person. Ask about hobbies, the weekend, how school is going, etc. Friendships are much stronger when friends take an interest in one another's lives. Hats are ok to wear all day today but please remove your sunglasses during classtime.

The JV Boys soccer team lost a tough 1-0 game against MCS yesterday. All boys played a great game and should be proud of their positive attitudes despite the outcome. A reminder to the JV Boys team of their practice from 4-5pm today.

A reminder to the Varsity Girls soccer team of their game on Monday, at home, against RPS.

Cross Country - Our QMS runners raced yesterday in a meet in Hampton.  Congratulations to Eden S, who finished 2nd overall for grade 6 and to Tyler S who finished 3rd for grade 6 boys. Congratulations to Carson R who finished 2nd for the grade 7/8 boys.  Congratulations to Kingslee O who finished first and to Lyndsie G who finished 2nd, both for grade 7/8 girls.
