This is a message from Mrs. Blanchard, Principal at Hampton Elementary School. Here is your weekly edition of the HES Hawk Squawk. I hope everyone enjoyed their break and students were energized and excited about returning to school ready for an incredible start to 2017!
ONLINE HOT LUNCH: The hot lunch program continues until January 20th. A new online ordering system was sent home via email on January 11th. Paper order forms will not be sent home.  Look for the yellow information sheet that was sent home today as orders and payments are due on Jan 18th.
MAD SCIENCE: The next Mad Science class at Hampton Elementary is scheduled for Monday January 16th, 2017 and your last class scheduled for Monday January 23rd, 2017. If you or any parents have any questions please send them along to the Mad Science coordinator.  colinforsythe@rogers.com
SKATING: New classes will begin skating so please ensure children have skates, a helmet and something for their hands. The school does have some options for loaning so if you are in need, ask your teacher. The remaining classes will attend – January 16th-March 31st (for Schofield, Bradshaw, Vallis, Raymond, Salgado & Veniot).
BOOK SWAP: As part of National Literacy Day we will be having a book swap. Please send in your previously read novels! On January 27th all students will be able to “shop” for a new to them book.
WINTER PARKING LOT SAFETY: As winter weather is here, we remind parents and students to be extremely cautious in the parking lot during drop off times. Please drive slowly through the lot as we cannot ensure that this area is salted. As always, students should unload from cars only from the passenger side. Please be reminded that the front of the school is a bus zone so cars should not be stopping in front of the school for drop off. Students can be dropped off at the Hawks Nest playground. Thank you for your ongoing cooperation to ensure our students arrive at school safely.
Our weekly Hawk Squawk is always posted on our school website under the Synrevoice tab!
Have a great weekend!

GRADE 4/5 SNOWPASS  With this season’s snowy conditions, we are reminded of our fortunate proximity to Poley  mountain. If you have been thinking of teaching the kids to ski, this pass can save you a lot of money! Check out the link below for more information: https://www.skicanada.org/grade-4-5-snowpass/
Heritage Week in NB This year Heritage Week in NB is Feb. 13 – Feb. 20 and the Kings Co. Museum wants to help celebrate by hosting a Heritage Contest for students at local area schools, including Hampton Elementary School.
How students can participate: The Kings Co. Museum has a blog called 100 Hidden Histories which can be viewed at 100HiddenHistories.blogspot.ca. Here’s the task:  students will find an object in their family that is at least 50 years old and write a short story about it.  Here is what should be included:
  • A description of what the object is
  • What is its use
  • Where it was made
  • Who it belonged to (has it been passed down from generation to generation)
  • Why is it still in their family
  • What it means to them
  • Any other interesting fact about the object
All submissions should be submitted in either MS Word or PDF format and be no longer than one page.  Pictures of the object from different angles need to be included as well, including any markings or engravings on the object. There will be one winner from each area school and the prize will be a $25 gift certificate from a local business.  The best submissions will be included in our 100 Hidden Histories blog in 2017.  Other submissions will be shared via our Facebook page.
How to enter: Students must email their work to the museum at kingscm@nbnet.nb.ca by end of day Thursday, Feb. 9.  The following information needs to be included:
  • Student name, School the student attends, What grade the student is in.
  • Name of the student’s homeroom teacher.
  • Email address where the student can be contacted for prize notification.  The Kings Co. Museum will also use this email address to notify students if their submission will be included in our 100 Hidden Histories blog in 2017.
  • The write-up of the object (maximum one page) submitted in MS Word of PDF format.
  • Pictures of the object.
Winners will be notified through the email address they used to send their entry and you will be copied.  Arrangements will be made to have their certificates and prizes presented to them by a member of the Kings Co. Historical and Archival Society.
