Multicultural Week

  • Do you have something from your culture that you would like to share with our class? (traditions, clothing, dance/music, food, games, etc)  Let me know if you would like to share..

Show What You Know

  • Duotangs will come home at the beginning of the week.  You will find a recent marked independent writing piece as well as a sight word show what you know.

  • Please sign and return asap.

Literacy

Sight Words:

  • This week we will review words taught so far this year.

  • We have learned: me, I, it, like, the, is, in, can, was, and, to, play, a, that, at, see, he, my, you, said, went, had, go, love, all, here, we, with, be, or, for, good, will

  • Practice reading and writing these at home

  • Challenge your child to find sight words they know in books

Reading Strategies:

  • Eagle Eye: He has really good eyesight and reminds us that we need to look at the pictures for clues about what the words might say.

  • Lips the Fish: This week we will learn about Lips the Fish.  Fish have great lips! Lips the Fish reminds us that we need to get our lips ready to say the beginning sound of a word.  We often combine Eagle Eye and Lips the Fish.

  • Stretchy Snake: Slowly stretch each letter sound to make the word

Oral Language

  • We are continuing to practicing different goals for oral language daily through read alouds and discussions..

  • Oral language goals;

    • I can ask and answer questions

    • I can be polite and take turns when talking

    • I can listen to others when they talk

    • I can talk to a small group or the whole class

    • I can understand that talk sounds different in different situations

    • I can give my opinion

    • I can follow and give simple directions

Writing:

  • We have set new writing goals.  We will sign our “contract” as a promise to ourselves to focus on our new goals.  We will work toward those goals this week.

Math

  • We will begin our new unit on capacity.

  • We will explore the volume of a variety of containers using materials such as water, sand, rice, pasta.

  • We will come up with strategies to compare the volume of 2 containers. Which holds more?  Which holds less?
