This week in 1FI Frenette!

Dear families,

Tomorrow is Halloween! Can you believe that two months have already gone by! I am so proud to see how much everyone's French has grown since the beginning of the year!

-On Friday I sent home a progress report. This is not an official report card, but is to help inform you of your child(ren)'s progress. The first sheet is where your child is behaviorally in the classroom at this point in time. The second one is an oral evaluation which I have completed one-on-one with your child in the last week. These sentences are sentences we have worked on since September and the key to mastering them is participation in class. As you know that most of our work in French Immersion classrooms is oral, this is only a tiny reflection of what your students have been working so hard on. Should you be concerned or have questions about anything in the progress report, please contact me so that I can answer questions or show you the assessments completed previously as well. I am always more than willing to chat about student progress!

-Pumpkin votes are still being accepted until noon tomorrow. 50 cents for 1 or 1$ for 3.

-A reminder that at Barkers Point School there are to be no costumes on Halloween. We wouldn't want any costumes ruined before Trick or Treating! We encourage everyone, instead, to dress up in Halloween colours!

-Picture retakes are on November 6th! Please let me know if you would like your child's picture retaken so that I can ensure this is done!

-In French this week, we are continuing to work with our family pets. If you have any pictures of your family pets, please do not hesitate to send them in, visuals help enhance our learning. Last week's work was mainly on learning the vocabulary, however, this week we are working on describing the pets by telling the class the pet's name "Il/Elle s'appelle...." as well as some basic descriptions such as size and colour. Students are doing great so far!

-In Math we continue to work on the 10 frame as well as the 20 frame but have also begun to work on skip counting. Please feel free to practice skip counting at home with your child, starting at 2 and continuing up, or starting from a different point (6, or maybe 10) if your child is showing ease with skip counting.

-I will be sending home a list of the questions we have been practicing since September, as well as their answers so that everyone may have the list at home and if any parents are able to speak French, can get in some extra practice in. I am also sending home our list of words we have covered in class to date that can be reviewed (this is the list of words on our word wall. Words are added to this list weekly as we learn and go over them in class. It is from this list that the weekly 5-10 words are chosen.)

-Tomorrow I will be officially sending the first few students with the first words that we have selected, as well as an info sheet. Please do not feel obliged as I know that your pronunciation might differ from that in class. This is for those parents who are able to and would like to practice speaking French with their children. Also, please work with your children to ensure that these are well taken care of, as they will be switching to another group of students next week. Please check seesaw tomorrow for a video on how to pronounce each word should you need any assistance.

-As always, please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have!

I hope you all have a wonderful week!

Mme Frenette
