Literary Devices Defined

Simile- A comparison using the words “as” or “like.”

Metaphor- A comparison without using the words “as” or “like." 

 
Personification-when an author gives something nonhuman, person-like characteristics.
 
Hyperbole-to exaggerate statements or claims not meant to be taken literally.
 
Alliteration-is the occurrence of the same letter or sound at the beginning of adjacent or closely connected words.
 

Onomatopoeia- is the formation of a word from a sound associated with what is named.

Students need to use the literary devices that we have been learning about in this writing piece. It is due Tuesday, June 6th
1.Write a story, song, script, comic strip or poem.
2.It can be as long or as short as you wish.
3.Include in your story an example of: Simile, metaphor, personification, hyperbole, alliteration, and onomatopoeia!
4.You have the rest of today and possibly some of the next class to complete the activity.
5.Have fun and be creative!
6.Be sure to use proper punctuation and grammar.

Health -Growth and Development

Today was the first day that we started Growth and Development in Health class. We discussed the topic of puberty in class. There is a work sheet that was assigned today titled ​They Tell Me I'm Going Through Puberty- Activity Sheet.

This activity sheet is due next Health class Friday, May 26th.

Letters to Grade 5 Students

We have spent the last two days working on letters to welcome the grade 5 students to Bliss Carman next year. The final copy is due tomorrow so that we can send them off to the grade 5 students.

Just a reminder to have your rough draft of your persuasive writing piece for class on Monday. We will be working on your good copy next week in class.

Language Arts

We are currently working on our novel study and bookmark number 3B is due on Monday, April. 24th.

We are also currently working on a persuasive writing piece, all the conclusions are due tomorrow, Thursday. The conclusion needs to be 5-7 sentences long as well as students should be working on their draft of the persuasive piece. The drafts are due on Monday April.24th, class time will be provided to be working on the good copies.

I have attached the conclusion organizer to this post as well.

Report Cards and SPCA Donations!

Please take the time to review your child's report card with them to celebrate successes and set goals. When your child has written down their goal please sign and date the sheet and return it in the report card envelope ASAP.

 

Just a reminder that we are doing a donation drive for the SPCA. We are accepting any type of donations such as: money, food, treats, toys or cat litter. Anything that you could contribute would be greatly appreaciated. The Leadership group will be delivering these donations on Friday, April 7th, 2017.
