The following is a review of our
current transportation safety procedures:
Morning Bus pick-ups: Parents are responsible for bus stop safety. Parents are required to be at the bus stop
in the early morning to help children manage their behaviour in a safe and
respectful manner until they are on the bus.
Morning Bus Drop Off: Teachers
are responsible for the safe exit from
the bus and entry into the school.
Teachers are outdoors on duty to supervise during this time.
Morning Car Drop Off: Parents are
responsible for the safe exit from the
car. Please be considerate of the
other parents dropping off their children and respect the kiss and go area between the pylons. Children should be able to jump out on their
own in a few minutes. If parents need
to get out of the vehicle to help their children dress and put back packs on
then you are required to park in either parking lot or further along the
driveway. Teachers will not be on
car duty as it is the parent’s responsibility, however, teachers are on duty on
the playground and in the school at morning run clubs. (Early gym and games
End of day: Teachers
are responsible for loading the students
on the correct bus and sending them on their way. Teachers are also responsible for handing students to parent/guardian pick
End of Day Bus Stop Safety: Parents are responsible for waiting at the bus stop to receive the
children. K-2 Students will be returned
to school if the bus driver does not see the designated adult waiting for the
children. It is best practice for
Grades 3-5 to have a parent at the bus stop.
If a parent decides not to be at the bus stop then the driver must be
made aware (as well as the classroom teacher) so they know to let your child
off the bus without an adult present.
Grade 3-5 students will be returned to the school if no adult is present
and the bus driver was not made aware.
Loss of bus privileges:
If children are returned to
the school 3 times the child will lose bus privileges for one week.
If children are not practicing expected behaviour on the bus it
may result in a bus misconduct form being sent home. Consequences include loss of privileges.
I hope this clarifies the transportation safety procedures for
you. Please feel free to contact me if
you would like to discuss anything further.
