Dear Families,
I hope you had a great weekend and are ready for another wonderful week in grade three!  Thank you to all parents who attended Parent Teacher Interviews.  Thank you for all your support!

What we are learning:
Our Balanced Literacy Block, which includes Read to Self – reading good fit books; Work on Writing – letters; and Word Work – individualized spelling program continues.
In Math, we are working on a unit on Addition and Subtraction.  Students will be learning mental math strategies, such as: using doubles; making a ten; and zero property. Students need to practice and recall basic addition facts to 18 and related subtraction facts.
In Science, we will be starting a Unit on Invisible Forces.
In Social Studies, we are learning about the Province of New Brunswick.

Information Items/Dates to Remember:
·         It is very important that you label your child’s jackets, sweaters, coats, shoes, backpack, etc… to help us get lost items of clothing to their rightful owners!  A lost and found box has been set up on the dance floor, so you can check if your child has lost something.
·         Students visit the Library each Thursday and may take books out to take home or keep at school to read.  All library books need to be returned each Thursday.
·         Please continue to check your child’s hair nightly as there have been cases of lice in our school.
  • December 1 - Tree Lighting at GNMES at 6:30.
  • There will be 2 Christmas concert performances this year for K-2 students. The dates are December 12th and December 13th.  The Christmas Concert is called “Elflandia” and both shows will be at 9:15 a.m. on those dates.  Families with last names starting with A-K are Monday, and families with last names starting with L-Z are Tuesday.  The children will perform for both concerts and parents will attend one concert to watch.
Homework
·         Each week, your child will be bringing home books at his/her independent reading level (good fit books). Please make time each night to allow your child to read these to you.  An important component of strengthening your child’s reading skills is regular home reading practice. Ask your child about what they are reading and have them answer questions.
·         For some fun math practice at home with your child, continue to practice addition and related subtraction facts up to 18.  Make sure to visit the Xtra Math site.
·         As always if you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call me at school, send a note in your child’s communication bag, or send me an email.
