Dec.5th  2G Newsletter
Dear Families,
The month of December is here!! The children are excited for Christmas and as part of their homework over the next two weeks I am asking each student to create (write and draw) on one page a family tradition they have at Christmas time. They can choose from a variety of topics: Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Christmas Dinner, Our Christmas Tree, Christmas Games or a topic of their choice. I am providing you with the paper. Encourage your child to write independently with you as their coach!! This is due by Dec. 16th but send it in as your child completes their writing so they can share it with the class. We will compile their writing to make a class book.
Tomorrow I am sending home your child’s end of the unit math review with a note which helps explain your child’s progress in math. Please review this with your child. We are starting our addition and subtraction unit with numbers up to 20. We will focus on mental math strategies such as knowing doubles, making ten and building from ten. We want students to explain their thinking and develop quick recall of basic facts. Keep practicing math fact games using playing cards and dice. Ask your child to teach you how to play face off.
Don’t forget the Christmas concert Mon Dec.12th at 9:15 for last names starting with A-K and Tues. Dec. 13th at 9:15 for last names starting with L-Z. Children are encouraged to wear something “Christmassy” for the concert.
Please keep an extra pair of mittens in your child’s book bag just in case they need a dry pair.
We are going skating at the Willie O’Ree on Wednesday, Dec.21st  from 10:00-11:00. Please sign the permission slip and send it back asap. We need lots of volunteers to help tie skate so let me know if you are available! Please continue to keep in touch with questions and concerns.
