Weekly News for Jan.10th -13th, 2017

Dear Families:

Welcome back!  We hope you enjoyed a wonderful holiday with your family and that you are rested and ready for an exciting 2017!

What we are learning:

Literacy - This week we will introduce the next five words on List 3 (my, would, me, will, yes). Our reading strategy for the month of January will be encouraging students to be become “engaging readers” - being mindful of how to be an effective reader (eyes on your book, reading the whole time and thinking about what you have read).

Math –Review addition of +3 and introduce the +4 strategy.

You and Your World - We will discuss New Year’s resolutions and how we can set goals for ourselves.

 Information Items/Dates to Remember:

·       Please remember to add an extra change of clothes in your child’s backpack including mittens and socks as we are noticing many are coming in from recess with wet clothes.

Homework

·       Now that January is here, it is imperative that your child read a good fit book and practice sight words and phrases each night to strengthen reading strategies learned at school.  This is the time of the year in Grade One where students can make great gains in their reading but not without practice!  J

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to call me at school, send a note in your child’s communication bag, or send an e-mail.
