What’s Happening in Our Class?
Fri. Sept. 18
We have had a
wonderful second week in Grade 2! Our routines are established and we are into
our first month of the curriculum. Take a look at the September image gallery
for a peek into our classroom!
Our Writer’s
Workshop had a lovely start. We turned the lights down low and played soft
music. I was impressed with my brand new Grade 2 students! GNMES works with the
“Daily 5” program for Literacy. We have learned and practiced the “Read to
Self” component and have built our stamina up to just over 8 minutes of quiet
uninterrupted reading.
We are enjoying
working with repeating patterns in math. We have begun our math work stations.
It is fun to work together with a partner on games and activities that
strengthen math skills.
Art was kicked
off this week by decorating our art portfolios. They are beautiful!
On Thursday we
welcomed John Campbelljohn to our school. He is part of the Harvest Jazz and
Blues Festival. We enjoyed listening to him sing and play the guitar!
It was great to see so many of you at
the school for the corn boil! It was nice to see the pride the students showed
in our classroom.
Notes:
-
If you have not already done so please send in your child’s
$45 student fees as soon as possible. Class trips, art supplies and all other
learning materials come out of class fees. Supplies have been purchased
and your child is using them daily.
-
Students will be using their
ear buds in the upcoming weeks. Please send these in if you have not already
done so. (Dollar store ear buds are fine!)
-
Please return all take-home
books on Fridays. If all books are not returned your child will keep the same
books until every book is returned. It is their responsibility to then change
books.
-
Please help your child keep
their toys at home. The school rule is that if students need to bring a toy for
an afterschool program it stays in their book bag.
-
Students will get library
books out on Fridays. Your child may choose to take their book home or keep it
here at school to read. These books may be returned to school any day.
-
The cafeteria has some nice
options for students for lunch. You can even order online! Have a look at the
menu on our website.
-
The book order was sent in
today! Please consider ordering online next time, as it makes placing the order
much easier!
Important
Dates
Sept. 29: Terry
Fox Walk (Don’t forget that we are collecting Tooines for Terry again this
year!)
Special Helper (last week): My
name is Lydia. I am 6 years old. My birthday is in November. I have a brother
named Cameron. My favourite food is spaghetti. The best part about being
special helper was walking in the front of the line.
Special Helper (this week): My
name is Autumn. I am 7 years old. My birthday is in April. I have a brother
named Baylee, and two sisters named Casey and Olivia. My favourite food is Kraft
Dinner. The best part about being special helper was helping the teacher.
What you can do at home:
-
Read to your child and listen to your child read every night. (Fill
in the RAH RAH sheet!)
-
Practice basic math facts to 10 on a regular basis.
-
Look around your home for patterns. Make up a pattern with
words, pictures, or objects.
