Dear Families,
We had another great week in grade 2!
We hope you all have a restful, fun weekend!
What we are learning:
Math:
We will continue with our unit on Patterns! In this unit
your child will develop an understanding of repeating and increasing patters.
They should also be able to explain and represent equality and inequality. Ask your child to try an increasing patter
for you at home with objects they see around the house.
Over the next few weeks we will be practicing our routines for
math work stations. Through these stations your child will have the opportunity
to practice and build upon math skills taught.
Literacy:
Our literacy block is up and running and your child is reading,
writing and working on words daily.
This week we will introduce our 2 listening to reading stations
and iPads.
We will also begin our guided reading small groups as well.
Writer’s Workshop is underway and we are reviewing how to write
small moment stories and this week we will focus on proper conventions.
You and Your World
This week we will be talking about growth. We will discuss the many
changes that occur as we develop. We will continue to talk about the season of
Fall and it’s many changes.
Information Items/Dates to Remember:
· If you have not already done so please send in your
child’s $45 student fees as soon as possible. Class trips, art supplies and all
other learning materials come out of class fees. Supplies have been
purchased and your child is using them daily.
· Class Dojo: On Monday your child will bring home
instructions on how to sign up for our new class dojo. We will no longer be
using the school website and all information ( pictures, newsletters, progress
and notes) will be put on our dojo. Be
sure to sign up as soon as you can!
· If you are sending
an email to us could you please remember to include both teachers. If
there was ever a case that one of us was out for the day it would ensure that
the email is received. Our emails are listed at the bottom of this newsletter.
· Our school Terry
Fox walk will take place on Thursday September 29th. Don’t forget
that we are collecting Tooines for Terry again this year.
Homework
· Each day, your
child will be bringing home 1 book at his/her independent reading level (good
fit books). We have used your child’s end of grade one reading level as a
starting point and we will be updating levels as we regularly re-assess your
child’s progress. Please make time each night to allow your child to read these
to you. Don’t forget to fill in your child’s RAH RAH ( Reading At
Home) sheet each
night. HH
· For some fun math
practice at home, look for patterns around your house and community with your
child. Have your child create and extend repeating and increasing patters for
you using materials found around the house! ( cereal, paper clips,
buttons, paper & crayons)
As always if you have any questions or concerns, please do not
hesitate to call us at school, send a note in your child’s communication bag,
or send us an email.
