3 Douglas Class News

The students have settled in nicely to routines, and are busy each day doing their job (“listen, be safe and kind, do your work, try your BEST, be respectful, be HERE!”). Our flexible Math groups (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday each week) are going well, the students enjoy being challenged at their level. In these groups we are working on number sense, with the current focus on Base 10 blocks and Place Value. On Thursday and Friday the students are all back in class and we’re currently working on Geometry, which ties nicely to our Science unit: Materials and Structures. The students are enjoying this Science unit, and are making some great discoveries as they manipulate materials and fasteners to build structures.

Our first field trip was a huge success, with 71 trees planted along the banks of the Nashwaak River. The students have done some amazing writing about this trip (pictures have been posted). Check out this link to the Nashwaak Watershed Association for an interview with one of our students: http://www.nashwaakwatershed.ca/tree-planting-ramps-up-with-student-voluntee
