Hello Families,                                                                 October 16th, 2016

I hope you all enjoyed the lovely fall weather this weekend.

We are continuing to learn the sounds the letters make in French. We will be adding two more pages to the sounds duotang “Les sons” this week. It is important to practice reading these each night. There are videos of teachers reading the same poems if you need to clarify pronunciation. Just check out my teacher page. Mastering the sounds in French will lead to accuracy in reading French words.

Students should also be reading in English regularly to ensure they maintain their reading level.

Last week your child wrote you a letter in the “Letters Home” scribbler and it was sent home. Please read the note on the inside cover and respond to your child’s letter. We will write these letters regularly and you will be able to note the progress your child makes in English writing.

In math we are continuing to practice identifying numbers in French. Many children need to practice this at home as there is still counting up on fingers. The goal is to hold up a number card and have your child say the number in French with the same ease as English. Keep practicing please. We are also working on addition and subtraction with double digit numbers and skip counting by 2’s, 3’s 5’s and 10’s.  Thank you to those of you who participated in the math-a-thon.

 Dates to remember :

*Monday, October 17th, Math-a-thon money is due

*Saturday, October 29th, 4-6pm - Howlfest here at GNMES
