The Heart of a Lion

In these times of hardship and negativity, a feel-good story seems like just the thing to send out to help people understand there is genuine kindness and goodness still around.

Logan Lean is the perfect examples of what we need more of now.  She is continuously interested in the well-being of others and work towards this often.  When Logan was a student at Leo Hayes, she was very heavily involved in our Feed the Lions Program.  Her and her dad, Shaun, helped organize a massive ticket selling fundraiser involving many of our local businesses.  This helped raise over 25,000. for the Feed the Lions program at Leo Hayes High School.  This program helps feed over 120 students every day as well as providing food basket deliveries to many families every week.  She served on the school committee where she also took part in selling 50/50 tickets at hockey games, helped with our Stuff-a-Bus campaign, worked in the breakfast room, and did many other fundraisers.   When she was not volunteering at school, she volunteered in the Y’s Men canteen at the Willie O’Ree, helped at the Community Kitchen and was involved in the BOKS morning gym program.

She obviously comes by this honestly as her dad, Shawn, who many will know from his involvement in minor hockey and the Fredericton Sports Investments Group, has been involved in helping our community for as long as I can remember.

Since her graduation from Leo Hayes, Logan has also graduated from the Maritime College of Forest Technology and is now living and working for Acadian Timber Limited in Plaster Rock.   She noticed that the same problems are occurring in Plaster Rock with kids going to school hungry and families struggling with food insecurity.  She has met with many local business owners as well as people at the school and is working towards getting a Food program started up there like the Feed the Lions program.

I reached out to Logan and Chelsea recently as we needed water bottles at Leo Hayes.  Due to the water fountains all being turned into bottle fillers, we have many students who cannot afford to replace lost or stolen bottles.  We were using cups but that was creating a different set of problems. They have not only decided to donate 500 water bottles to the school but are also bringing a check for $ 1000. To the Feed the lions program.  Their generosity and kindness will go such a long way here.

I just wanted to get this out there so people can see how our young people are trying to make a difference.  Maybe it will help others decide to jump in in their areas.

Thanks for all our Lions!!
