New Brunswick Federation of Labour Scholarships 2020
Awards Program 2020

 
The New Brunswick Federation of Labour is pleased to announce its annual awards program. A brief description of the various awards, bursaries and scholarships offered follows. Additional details including eligibility and selection criteria can be found in the application forms.
James A. Whitebone Memorial Scholarships

 
These two scholarships (2) of $500 are available to students entering their first year of post secondary studies. Eligible are members, or their children, who belong to local unions affiliated with the NBFL. The application deadline is June 30th .

 
Tim McCarthy Environment Prize
This $500 prize (1) is open to NBFL members or their children, who are pursuing higher education in fields relating to environmental protection and education. Applicants may be in their first or subsequent years of post secondary studies. The application deadline is June 30th .
NBFL Solidarity Bursaries
These two awards (2) of $500 are open to any person regardless of union membership pursuing post secondary education full-time or enrolled in high school at the grade 12 level. Funded by AIL Canada, a unionized insurance provider, they serve to promote greater awareness and understanding of the value of unions. The application deadline is June 30th.

 
J. Harold Stafford Humanitarian Award
This $500 award (1) is to assist with funding for worthwhile union and community projects. Eligible for consideration are local union members and labour councils affiliated with the NBFL undertaking labour history projects, labour libraries, Day of Mourning monuments, etc., as well retraining programs owing to plant downsizing or closures. The application deadline is June 30th.

 
Dermot Kingston Life Long Learning Award
The purpose of this $500 award is to encourage and support continuous training and literacy programs for workers. Eligible for consideration are NBFL affiliates, as well as provincial and community organizations undertaking or sponsoring, partially or fully, literacy projects and workplace related training activities including union developed programs. The application deadline is June 30th .

 
Owen MacLennan Trade Unionist of the Year Award
A donation in the amount of $1,000 will be made in the name of the recipient to the NBFL Blair Doucet Youth Summer Camp. This award was established in 2020 and is funded by Argus Audiology. Its goal is to acknowledge and celebrate individual trade unionists who have made a significant and/ or ongoing contribution to the labour movement. Labour Councils and union locals affiliated to the NBFL can nominate either a union member or staff. The application deadline is June 30th .
