King's High School Photojournalism Contest

We're hosting another workshop and competition for students interested in journalism or photography. This is an excellent way for students to learn basic photojournalism skills and put those skills to the test!

The workshop is open to all high school students. King's photojournalism instructor Jeff Harper will teach basic photojournalism skills and how to shoot a photo essay. This session is open to all skill levels and whether students have a DSLR camera or a smartphone camera. The workshop will take place on Sunday, February 7, at 4:00 p.m. Atlantic Time. If a student can't make it, I can send them a recording if they contact me at josh.young@ukings.ca. Please head to our website to register.

The photo essay contest is open to only grade 12 students. They can take the skills they learned in the workshop and use them! They will be expected to take six or seven photos that tell a story about a particular location (their home, neighbourhood, hometown). Students can write an introduction of 100-300 words, but the photos should do the storytelling. Wherever students decide to shoot their photo essay, we want them to be safe and follow COVID-19 protocols. The winner of the contest receives a Canon Rebel SL-3 camera, King's swag, and has their photo essay shown on the King's website. Please head to our website to find more information and see examples of similar photo essays.

The workshop and contest are open to students regardless if they have applied to King’s or not.
