Track & Field/Recess - Heat Advisory
Good afternoon,

In planning for tomorrow with the heat for both the Track Meet and Recess:

We will run the 1200 m run first so that the most difficult thing will be done early.  We will also be bringing extra large water containers for students to fill their water bottles if needed.

Since we cannot find anything from District currently for Heat Advisories and physical activity we will follow the FDSA Heat Protocol:

During periods of extreme heat, intense physical activities can cause serious health problems for soccer players of all ages. Before all practices/games, all players should be well hydrated; players should drink water 30 minutes before practice and every 20 minutes for an hour after every practice and/or game.

During periods of extreme heat, the Admin will monitor the humidex. Coaches, Managers and Team Officials shall abide by the following guidelines, but, if at any time a player exhibits signs of stress related to extreme heat, the player should be immediately removed from play, moved out of the sun and provided with water or sports drink.

Humidex Code Action
Up to 30 Green Normal play
30 to 37 Yellow Mandatory water breaks (5 min. duration) every 20 min.
37 to 40 Red No games played; no intense physical exertion; mandatory water breaks (5 min) every 20 minutes; 1 hour total practice time
Over 40 Black Suspend all play and practices

We are not looking at Yellow until around noon tomorrow so we will consider this for Track and lunch recess.  This being said we will monitor students well at Track & Field as well as on the playground as they often play hard and don’t realize they are overheating.  We will also be assessing the temperature in the morning before leaving the school.

If you have any questions or concerns, please call the school.
