Orange Shirt Day

Monday September 30th is Orange Shirt Day.  We are encouraging all staff and students to wear orange shirts on this day.

Orange Shirt Day occurs annually at the end of each September, the time of year when Indigenous children were taken away from their homes and put into residential schools. Orange Shirt Day grew out of a woman named Phyllis' story, who had her bright orange shirt taken away from her on her first day of school at St. Joseph Mission residential school in British Columbia. On this day each year, people are encouraged to wear orange as an opportunity to keep the discussion on all aspects of residential schools happening annually. On Monday September 30 we encourage everyone to wear an Orange Shirt in honor of those affected by residential schools and to stand together to achieve reconciliation. #OrangeShirtDay #EveryChildMatters”
