Grade 2 Week at a Glance (Oct. 24-28)
Tuesday Night – Pack library books to be sent back Wednesday.
Literacy:
· Nightly – read good fit books. Students now have the option of reading books online on Raz-kids
· Word Wall Words: We will be focusing on Halloween themed words this week. Please take this week to review all word wall words. Your child should be able to read and spell the words.
· Word Family: -it How many words can you find that end with it?
· Sound Team: We will be learning silent b, w, and K
· Reading strategies: Please review and continue to use the following strategies taught in class: Eagle Eye, Lips the Fish, Stretchy Snake, Chunky Monkey and Skippy Frog. A book mark with these strategies will be sent home in your child’s message bag at the beginning of the week. Please keep it handy while your child is reading Good Fit books to remind your child to use them.
· Writing: We are starting an independent piece of writing this week. This piece will be marked according to the grade 2 outcomes which will give you a snapshot of your child’s writing progress. This piece of writing will be completed by your child, with no help from anyone. They will construct, edit and rewrite this piece completely on their own, using strategies already taught in class.
Math:
· We will continue to work with Numbers to 100. Please practice the following;
o Say a number between 0 and 100 and have your child print it
o Show your child a number and have them say it
o Name the number that is 1 more/less than a given number
o Place five numbers in front of your child and have them order them from least to greatest. Ask them how they know the order.
o Choose two numbers and have your child identify which is greater. How do they know? (compare how many groups of ten in each number).
o This week we will be exploring odd and even numbers.
· We will place a link for a hundred chart on our school page for you to use at home.
