Week of October 31

There will be lots of excitement on Halloween Day in kindergarten. Black and orange will be everywhere! The children enjoy all the special activities and snacks. Thanks to those who are providing the wonderful treats, the children will really appreciated them.

Jolly Phonics: introducing letters Oo and Uu

Keep reviewing all letters that we have covered. The children must be able to give the letter name, sound and action. Practice until they are mastered. If they are learning many, focus on 2-3 at a time. They also need to practice proper letter formation.

Children who have mastered letters and sounds can practice building words with the letters sent home.

Phonological awareness: segmenting and blending sounds in three letter words. In order for children to write phonically regular words by themselves, they have to be able to hear the sounds in words and know how to write the letters for these sounds.

Math: familiar arrangements of 1 to 6 objects, identifying dots on five frames,

Comparing quantities (more, fewer, the same, how many more). When referring to countable quantities the word fewer is used and when referring to measures, the word less is used. “There are fewer counters in this group. There is less water in this glass.”
