​Have a happy Easter.  I look forward to hearing all about the long weekend adventures when we return on Tuesday.

Grade 2
Week at a Glance (April 18-21)
 
 
Nightly –  Read good-fit books/Raz-Kids.   Reading out loud to a family member helps with fluency and expression.
 
Library – Pack library books Tuesday to be returned Wednesday
 
Literacy:
 
We will be practicing putting words in alphabetical order and learn how to use alphabetical order to find words in a dictionary.
 
Word Family:  - ice
How many words can you find that end in “ice”?
 
Writing:  We will be learning and writing about ways to help protect our earth.
 
Math: We are continuing our unit on two digit addition and subtraction. 
 
We are focusing on using models such as hundred charts, open number lines, and base ten blocks to solve addition problems.  We have used the front-end strategy which has students add the tens and then the ones.  For example:  42+21=   40+20 =60 and 2+1=3  60+3= 63.   This week we will focus on place value and solve addition problems that are written vertically.  In this strategy we will add the ones first and then add the tens.  The students will be taught several strategies and then they will pick the one that works best for them

April 25 – Jump Rope for Heart due back
April 28 – Professional Learning for teachers – no school for students
