Grade 2 Week at a Glance (April 23-27)
Wednesday Night – Pack library books to be sent back Thursday.
Nightly – Read good-fit books/Raz-Kids. Reading out loud to a family member helps with fluency and expression.
Literacy: Please continue to practice/review all sight words and Sound Teams. If your child can read all of the sight words, have him/her try spelling them or writing them in a sentence.
Writing: We will be experimenting with different forms of writing (How To, Non-Fiction, Fiction, Poetry, Persuasive etc…)
Math:
We are starting a unit on measurement. Your child will be learning to
· Estimate, measure, and compare lengths using non-standard units, such as paper clips, straws, snap cubes, craft sticks etc.
· Estimate, measure, and compare height using non-standard units.
· Estimate, measure, and compare the distance around an object using non-standard units.
· Estimate, measure, and compare masses using balance scales and non-standard units.
· Solve everyday problems about measurement.
Please continue to practice addition and subtraction of 1 and 2 digit numbers at home, with and without regrouping 23+22 = (no regrouping) 28 + 17 = (regrouping) 45- 22= (no regrouping) 53 – 17 (regrouping).
Reminders/Important Dates:
April 23 – Grade 2 students perform at Music Festival (FHS). Stage time is 9:50. Please return permission slip if you have not already done so.
April 24 – Half Day professional learning. Students will be dismissed at 11:30 (please note the change of time).
May 1-Jump Rope for Heart pledges are due.
May 3 - Book order forms due
May 4 – Council Day (Professional Learning) for teachers. No school for students.
May 14 – NBTA Branch Day – No School for students.
May 21 – Victoria Day – No school.
May 29 - Half Day professional learning. Students will be dismissed at 11:30 (please note the change of time).
June 12 – Family Picnic (more information to follow).
