Orange Shirt Day

In many school across Canada, Orange Shirt Day is celebrated on September 30 (September 29th this year). Students are invited to wear orange shirts as a symbol of the wrongs done by the residential school system to Aboriginal Children and communities.

The Department of Education and Early Childhood Development in the 10-year Education Plan made a commitment to inform students of the history of residential schools. The annual Orange Shirt Day on September 29th opens the door to global conversation on all aspects of Residential Schools. It is an opportunity for First Nations, local governments, schools and communities to come together in the spirit of reconciliation and hope for generations of children to come.

HPMS invites those who have orange shirts to wear them tomorrow in support of Orange Shirt Day.
